South Africa has been rocked by incidents of gender-based violence lately. Hundreds of people protested against the scourge in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Friday, 13 September.
Civil society organisations and activists are calling for an end to the violence. President Cyril Ramaphosa has vowed to tighten laws to fight rape and murder of women.
He has called for an urgent seating of parliament to address the issue.
