SA Lockdown: Helen Zille backs DA court challenge

Democratic Alliance Federal Executive Chairperson Helen Zille is backing interim leader John Steenhuisen’s comments about lockdown regulations. Steenhuisen says the lockdown cost more lives than it has saved. Zille says the regulations are unconstitutional and irrational.

The party is taking the government to court over the lockdown regulations. There were three issues that we raised as being irrational, one was e-commerce, the second was the curfew which is a completely unconstitutional restriction on peoples lives, and the last one is the exercise window.

The second case is focused on whether or not the disaster management act as a whole is constitutional and we say it isn’t, as the group of the executive is not accountable to anyone…we headed to the constitutional court to resolve that question”, said Zille.
