The DA joined the ongoing debate around singer Babes Wodumo’s arrest on Monday, applauding the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for their speedy response but claimed it showed that not everyone was equal before the law.
Babes was arrested on Monday alongside her sister Nondumiso and fellow musician Thobeka Tipcee Ndaba. They appeared in the Durban magistrate’s court after a warrant for their arrest was issued last Friday. The warrant was issued for the trio after they failed to appear in court on a common assault charge.
They were sentenced to 30 days in prison or a R1,000 fine.
While social media was abuzz with reaction to the verdict, the DA issued a statement on her arrest.
In a statement the party said it noted the speed with which the NPA had taken action against Babes.
The party called for similar speed in dealing with politicians accused of criminal activity, including Ace Magashule.
While Babes Wodumo has a case to answer for, what is of greater concern is the fact that not a single case implicating Ace Magashule, and other high-ranking ANC officials, has reached a point of a docket being referred to the NPA for criminal prosecution.

Despite evidence of corruption, including many criminal cases opened by the DA – not one implicated official in the ANC has been held accountable for the theft of public money.
Meanwhile the NPA wasted no time in taking action against Babes Wodumo…https://t.co/jQfZNe9pmW

They claimed that this proved that not everyone is equal before the law.
The matter against Babes and her two other co-accused was remanded until April 24.
