There’s a super variant of Covid-19, and scientists are concerned, especially Professor Tulio De Oliveira, from the KwaZulu-Natal Research and Innovation Sequencing Platform.
The super-variant is believed to have an extremely high number of mutations.
De Oliveira says the government has assembled a team of scientists to take a closer look.
The question now is, will the new COVID-19 variant result in a harder lockdown?
Health Minister Joe Phaahla says the National Coronavirus Command Council will be meeting to discuss the implications.
Meanwhile, Cabinet has extended the National State of Disaster to 15 December.
It says this will continue to assist in the fight against the coronavirus.
