COVID-19 is a major threat to the country’s education system and could result in what Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga calls a ‘coronavirus generation’.
Motshekga has visited schools in Johannesburg to inspect the return of Grade 6, 11 and some Grade R pupils.
She says the 2020 school year may spill over into 2021. The basic education system is faced with a new normal.
While the country and the world fights the coronavirus pandemic, the education system still needs to be implemented in compliance with the constitution.
