Number of active Covid-19 cases continue to decline

Update on Covid-19 in SA (20th February 2021)

The number of active Covid-19 cases continue to decline and the recovery rate is 93,8 per cent that has seen over 1,4-million people survive the virus.

As of today, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 1 502 367.

The cumulative total of tests conducted to date is 8 867 659 with 28 722 new tests recorded since the last report.

Deaths and Recoveries

Regrettably, a further 81 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 3, Free State 5, Gauteng 29, Kwa-Zulu Natal 23, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 6, North West 0, Northern Cape 0 and Western Cape 15 which brings the total to 48 940 deaths

We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients.

Our recoveries now stand at 1 409 553, representing a recovery rate of 93,8%

Vaccination Rollout

The number of health care workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol is 10 414 as of 6 pm 20 February 2021. This will help the number of active Covid-19 cases to continue to decline across the country. 

In Other News – Gugulethu cops investigate another case of taxi violence after 3 men fatally shot

Gugulethu authorities are investigating a triple murder after three men were shot and killed.

The incident, which police believe to be part of ongoing taxi violence, happened on Thursday night.

One of the men died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the hospital.

A fourth victim, a 37-year-old man, managed to survive the shooting incident and is currently receiving medical care in the hospital. learn more
