The case against a police officer seen on CCTV footage violently assaulting a man has been postponed for a formal bail application in the Boksburg magistrate’s court.
Constable Michael Sei is facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault under threat, and handling of a firearm while under the influence.
The State Prosecutor informed the magistrate that bail would be opposed as there have been threats made against the owner of the store.
His lawyer asked that Sei be remanded in custody at a location where he would be safe.
He’s a member of the anti-gang unit and may be kept with criminals he’s responsible for putting in prison.
The matter has been postponed to 22 October for a formal bail application.
