The Endumeni Municipality’s mayor is appearing in court for an alleged plot to assassinate the council speaker.
Siboniso Mbatha, uMtshezi Municipality IFP councillor Mthembeni Majola and an alleged hitman will appear in the Estcourt magistrate’s court on Thursday.
They were arrested last week and remanded in custody.
The trio allegedly planned to kill council speaker Bongiwe Mbatha-Makhathini.
Mbatha has now appointed DA councillor Isri Bedassi as acting mayor.
He is now the first DA mayor in the province, but the move has divided the council.
