CONTRACT SPECIALIST:

WATER AND POWER INFRASTRUCTURE EXPERIENCE (LAWYER)

IRENE

The client specialises in the delivery of corporate legal services and customers include unlisted and listed South African entities, tertiary institutions, national governmental departments, state owned entities (SOE’s), mining houses and steel manufacturers

Responsibilities could include:

·

Contracts drafting

·

Working in all sectors of law and business, in particular but not limited to supply chain, mining, electricity and building environments as well as financial advisory sector.

·

Managing and running litigation and ADR matters.

·

The position will also call on you to support other lawyers within the team in regard to contract drafting, opinions and negotiation.

·

Work activities vary according to the type of case and specialist area but typically involve- and candidate must be able to:

o

Draft and review all manner of contracts;

o

Provide opinions (contract law, statutes);

o

Run litigation matters;

o

Deal with several cases, opinions and contracts simultaneously.

o

Advise clients on the law and how it may affect their case;

o

Draft documents and contracts tailored to the client’s individual needs;

o

Negotiate;

o

Research documents and case law to ensure the accuracy of advice and procedure;

o

Conduct training, both internally and for clients;

o

Instruct specialist advocates to appear in court for the client in disputes;

o

Keep up to date with changes and developments in the law by reading journals and law reports;

o

Anticipate and helping to circumvent problems;

o

Understand business of clients;

o

Understand and apply policies of clients;

o

Advise on legal and commercial risks and strategy and suggest mitigations.

Skills:

·

Communications Skills.

·

Excellent command of the English language.

·

Proven track record of drafting, reviewing and editing agreements and contracts.

·

Familiar with local and international laws and regulations.

·

Strong negotiation and presentation skills.

·

Ability to work independently under tight deadlines and deliver results, strong time management, prioritisation and organisational skills

·

Computer skills and typing skills essential (must be able to do own typing).

·

Excellent knowledge of the law and must have excellent research skills.

·

Interpretation skills.

·

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·

Be hard working, flexible and willing to be available when required and to work overtime.

Education

·

Minimum requirement is a
BCom (Law), LLB or equivalent legal qualification and candidate must be an Admitted Attorney or advocate.

·

Grade 12/Matric/Senior Certificate

·

At least 6-10 years’ post articles professional expertise.

·

Driver’s license & SA ID

·

Transportation and travel

·

Candidate must have own transportation and must be willing to travel with and outside of the RSA.
