Competition Commission finds Roche overpriced breast cancer treatment

The Competition Commission has its sights set on Swiss company, Roche, for overpriced breast cancer treatment. It says the company overcharged for the much-needed Trastuzumab drug. The excessive pricing saw over 10,000 patients go without treatment.

It’s alleged this was the case in both the public and private sectors. The price gouging dates all the way back to 2011.

The commission says this is not only a contravention of the Competition Act but is a violation of human rights. It has referred the matter to the Competition Tribunal for a hearing.
