Community in KwaDukuza urges Ramaphosa to attend to their issues with haste

Community members of the Lindelani area in KwaDukuza, northern KwaZulu-Natal, have urged African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa to speedily address the challenges they’re facing.

Youth unemployment is rife in the area, as well as a lack of basic service delivery.

They outlined these issues to Ramaphosa on Saturday, during his ANC door-to-door campaign in the area.

Community member Lindokuhle Ndwandwe told Ramaphosa that job opportunities are given to those who are affiliated with certain political parties.

“At times there are job opportunities here but those jobs are given to certain people, and we end up not being employed, but we are all suffering here, no one is better than the other.”

Another community member who wanted to remain anonymous said crime in KwaDukuza is now at an uncontrollable rate.

He said most community members are victims of crime, and they want the government to intervene because community members are no longer safe.

“We are not safe here in Lindelani, even when are coming back from work, we get mugged.”

Ramaphosa vowed that the ANC-led government will respond to the community’s issues, without giving an exact deadline on when these would be resolved.
