ActionSA in Johannesburg has accused council speaker Colleen Makhubele of intentionally delaying the motion of no confidence against the city’s executive mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda.
He was set to face the vote in council on Tuesday, but the party said Makhubele did not take their motion to the council’s programming committee.
On Monday, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) announced it was investigating complaints regarding Gwamanda’s funeral scheme, allegedly used by him to scam Soweto residents.
ActionSA said this was enough reason for Gwamanda’s motion to go to council as soon as possible.
The party said Makhubele was trying to protect Gwamanda from taking accountability for allegedly scamming the same people he claimed to serve.
It said Gwamanda had a serious case to answer, and the African National Congress (ANC)-Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) coalition was turning a blind eye on the criminal allegations levelled against him.
But Gwamanda told the publication that no charges were brought against him and accused ActionSA of seeking relevance using his name.
Makhubele is yet to respond to the green party’s accusations.
