Chaos at the dam: Workers run for their lives after spotting 5 pythons – Fearless Cockroach catches 3 of them

Firefighter Cockroach Mdluli has once again come to the rescue of pythons and workers.

During the cleaning of dams at the Mkhuhlu sewerage plant near Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga, between Friday, 30 July and Sunday, 1 August, he removed three pythons.

Worker Abele Mkansi (35) told the publication that when they started draining water on Tuesday, they spotted a python trying to escape.

“We were shocked and ran in different directions. We watched in disbelief as we saw four others leaving the drained dam and escaping into other dams,” he told the People’s Paper.

“One of the security guards told us to call Cockroach, who would catch the pythons. We then called him and he came to the dam to catch it.”

Abele said workers were happy that the snakes were removed.

“We’re breathing a sigh of relief that the snakes didn’t bite anyone. We want to thank Cockroach for coming to our rescue,” he said.

Cockroach, an employee of the Bushbuckridge Municipality, said he had received calls from security guards at the plant over the years.

“For the 10 years I’ve been doing this job, I’ve rescued many snakes from residential places.

“I want to warn the security guards and workers to watch out for more snakes,” he said.

“They informed me that more were seen escaping to the bushes and dams.”

Cockroach said there was a possibility that the snakes would be out hunting in the bushes, and attack goats and chickens on local farms. He said their favourite food were frogs and fish.

Cockroach said that after rescuing the pythons, he dropped them off at Kruger National Park so they could go on with their lives.
