A new plant-based restaurant set in the heart of Cape Town is looking for an experienced and skilled Assistant Chef.
The successful candidate will prepare menus and dishes in collaboration with the Head Chef, welcome customers in a friendly manner, and run the front of house operations.
Requirements:
Clear criminal record (essential)
Experience in the hospitality/restaurant industry
Knowledge of food safety systems (HACCP)
Willing to work shifts
Ability to work under pressure and handle unexpected issues well
Assertive and supportive personality to encourage the team
Duties will include (but not limited to):
Prepare menus and dishes in collaboration with the Head Chef and Assistant Head Chef
Ensure adequacy of supplies at the cooking stations
Prepare ingredients that should be frequently available (vegetables, chips etc.)
Maintain control of kitchen stock
Maintain health, hygiene and safety requirements
Ensure proper quality control from when the suppliers deliver to when the food reaches the customer
Ensure that the area of responsibility is always kept clean and tidy
Ensure that the Head Chef is informed of ingredient orders, maintain par stock levels and accept and store food deliveries according to SOP’s
Ensure that all dishes are correctly garnished, have the correct portion size, and are presented in accordance with the prescribed serving dish in the prescribed manner
Follow the guidance of the Head Sous Chef and offer input of new ways to present or prepare dishes
Put effort in optimizing the cooking process with attention to speed and quality
Monitor overall look, feel and cleanliness of restaurant
Following and ensuring all staff follow the Bamboo Code of Conduct and management rules
Help maintain smooth and friendly cooperation
Always welcoming customers in a friendly manner
Ringing up purchases and accepting payments
Issuing receipts on the POS system by capturing customers’ details on each purchase
Ensuring this is done as much as possible on each purchase
