Cassper Nyovest has just explained why he refused to perform a HHP tribute at the recently concluded South African Music Awards.
#SAMA25 has come and gone and now that the dust has settled, we can all take a few moments to unpack everything that went down. One of the most controversial topics was that of a man who wasn’t even there, HHP (come on, what’s a SAMA without Jabba?).
The rapper’s legacy was honoured with a lifetime achievement award which we all thought Lerato Sengadi was going to collect before the award was eventually collected on his behalf by the late rapper’s son, Leano – more on that story here if you want to read about it.
One other topic of discussion was the tribute performance which was dedicated to late rappers, HHP and Prokid. Let’s just say the timeline didn’t think it was all that:
That tribute to Hhp and Pro kid was pap, even Ishmael will admit that was not his best performance #SAMA25 pic.twitter.com/yscTGInNm8

Instead, many people were wondering why Cassper Nyovest, Jabba’s mentee and fellow Maftown rapper didn’t perform the tribute instead. Cassper and HHP were a close duo and it only made sense to include the Sweet n’ Short rapper. We’re not the only ones who thought so either:
Jabba man mzansi’s MASTER of maftown motswako…one love for HHP Award well deserved #BossKeMang @casspernyovest should’ve went there and performed just at that moment of the award, king it would’ve bin so legendary..#wamoTsebaMotho pic.twitter.com/ZM6nu13VAK

As it turns out, Cassper was actually approached to perform at the SAMAs but the rapper revealed that he turned down the opportunity because he would have been limited to how much of a tribute he could share:
They asked me but they wouldn't allow me to do it the right way so nah. If i do a Jabba tribute on live tv, it has be the one. That's my brother. I would have to knock it out for him. Not some half baked stuff. https://t.co/VlluQSSBPU

We’re all disappointed fam. Don’t you think Cassper Nyovest would have done Jabba justice?
