Man hunt for 2 suspects who opened fire on a car in Gqeberha, leaving 2 dead

Eastern Cape police are on the hunt for at least two suspects who allegedly opened fire on a white VW Polo in Ikamvelihle, Gqeberha, and killed two occupants.

According to police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge, the car was driving into a driveway of a home in Koliti Street on Thursday evening when unknown suspects started shooting at the vehicle and its occupants.

“The 38-year-old driver and a 29-year-old passenger passed away on the scene. Another 35-year-old male was injured in the incident and is receiving medical treatment.

“The suspects fled the scene after the shooting, and the motive for the attack is still being investigated,” Beetge said.

He said murder and attempted murder cases were opened at Ikamvelihle SAPS and the investigation is being led by the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit (POCI).

Anyone with information that could assist in this investigation can contact Detective Sergeant Xhayimpi on 079 896 7010 or alternatively contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

Meanwhile, in another incident, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) are seeking the public’s help in identifying suspects linked to the murder of a Cape Town police officer.

More than six months after Sergeant Faizel Adams was gunned own at a home in Victoria Street, Parow, police are appealing to the public to help catch the suspects linked to the officer’s murder.

The images, apparently taken from security camera footage, show the two armed men entering the property.

Both suspects are wearing masks. One has a red cap pulled low over his face while the other has a dark hoodie over his head.

The two later fled in a red MK1 VW Golf.

Anyone with information about the suspects’ whereabouts can call the investigating officer, Sergeant Cheslyn Christians, on 079 880 9841.
