Canaan Mdletshe elected as NFP Secretary-General

Former journalist Canaan Mdletshe has been elected the new National Freedom Party Secretary-General. Mdletshe was elected alongside with Zanele Magwaza-Msibi who retained her position as president on Friday night at Ulundi where the party held its elective conference.

Deputy position went to former Nongoma mayor Jeremia Mavundla while Bhekithemba Dlamini and Mzwakhe Sibisi were elected chairman and deputy chairman respectively.

Mdletshe and Magwaza-Msibi were the only ones who were elected unopposed.

He told Daily Sun that he was humbled by trust shown to him by members and promised to work hard to unite the party and end factions.” I couldn’t believe when my name appeared in both slates. I’m very grateful to branches of the party that entrusted me with such an important position. I promised not to disappoint,” said Mdletshe.

He started his journalism career in various community newspapers and radio stations before joining Sowetan more than 10 years ago.

He both worked for Sowetan and Times until 2013 where he left to become Magwaza-Msibi’s spokesman while she was deputy minister of Science and Technology.

He was party national spokesman until he was yesterday where he was elected secretary.
