Cable theft on the rise in Polokwane

Cable theft is a major problem for the Polokwane municipality.

Mayor Makoro John Mpe says it’s affecting the economy, business, and the community at large.

He says thus far nearly R10-million has been spent on repairs and the replacement of cables.

“We’ve got quite a serious problem of cable theft that affects both businesses and our residents,” the mayor said.

“On a daily basis, our law enforcement agencies get reports of cable theft.

“I terms of repairs this financial year alone, we’ve spent approximately R9.8-million for replacement of cables.”
