VIDEO: Thugs cut traffic lights in broad daylight

Joburg Road Agency is pleading with people to avoid damaging public infrastructure and traffic lights.
This comes after a video went viral on social media showing a group of men chopping down and stealing traffic lights.
One suspect can be seen chopping wires from a traffic light lying on the ground and then two more suspects are seen pulling away the light before making way with the cables.
On Thursday, 14 April, the road agency said acting CEO Siyabonga Nodu had watched how traffic signal infrastructure was being vandalized with shock and anger.

“This is certainly the work of brazen criminals and syndicates bent on ensuring our infrastructure is malfunctioning and decommissioned illegally. This causes undue stress and frustration for our motorists and road users and contributes to accidents and loss of life,” it said.
The agency called on enforcement agencies and community policing forums to stamp out this scourge of brutality.
“The whole intersection could cost between R180 000 and R200 000 to repair, depending on the total damage experienced,” it said.
