The Brazilian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 schedule through to at least 2030 after race organisers signed a five-year contract extension for the race at Interlagos in Sao Paulo. F1 returned to Interlagos in 1990 following a 10-year stint in Rio de Janeiro, and the extension will ensure the race will remain in Sao Paulo for several more years as the circuit’s schedule has become increasingly busy.
The city of Sao Paulo invested in the event as part of the previous five-year extension that was signed in 2020. Friday’s announcement was made ahead of the 51st edition of the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend.
“I am delighted to announce we will be staying at Interlagos until 2030, and I can’t wait for many more years of the wonderful atmosphere that the Brazilian fans bring,” F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said in a statement.
“Brazil has such a rich racing heritage, and this iconic circuit is a favourite of drivers and fans around the world. It embodies everything that is great about racing, and we look forward to seeing how it develops over the years to come to create an even better experience. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton won his first drivers’ championship in Brazil 15 years ago. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has already clinched this year’s title.
