Bonang to supply bubbly at President Ramaphosa’s inauguration

Actress, presenter and radio personality Bonang Matheba announced that her very own champagne will be served at Cyril Ramaphosa’s presidential inauguration on Saturday.

Ramaphosa was elected unopposed as South African president in the National Assembly on Wednesday after the African National Congress won 57,51% of the popular vote.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, Matheba said her range of Méthode Cap Classique (MCC), known as House of BNG, would be served at the inauguration. A bottle of House of BNG MMC retails for R399.99 at Woolworths.

“The @houseofbng is proud bubbly supplier for the 2019 Presidential Inauguration on May 25th 2019!! Congratulations to President-Elect @cyrilramaphosa,” Matheba wrote. “We can’t wait to toast with you.”

Matheba worked with acclaimed Cape Wine Master Jeff Grier for over two years to develop the champagne and released it officially in March. Calls to presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko went unanswered.

Ramaphosa contacted Matheba on Instagram during the elections to encourage her and her followers to vote.

Ramaphosa’s inauguration will be held at Loftus Versfeld, rather than at the Union Buildings where it is typically held.

It was moved to the stadium to cut R100 million off the inauguration budget, Minister in the Presidency Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma previously said. She added that the budget for Ramaphosa’s inauguration is significantly smaller than the budget of his predecessor Jacob Zuma’s inauguration in 2014.

While not revealing the exact allocated budget, Dlamini-Zuma said that the presidency would not be spending more than R120 million, while Zuma’s 2014 inauguration cost around R240 million.
