Banyana Banyana retain COSAFA Cup title

The first half was a tough one for South Africa as they tried to break down a stubborn Cameroon team. The visitors dominated but it was Jane who managed to break the deadlock just before half-time sending Banyana into the lead.

Refiloe Jane starred for Banyana Banyana in their 2-1 win against Cameroon as they held onto their COSAFA Women’s Championship trophy as she scored a brace for the home team in Port Elizabeth a short while ago.

Jane’s thunderous shot was too good for the Cameroon’s defence to keep out which saw South Africa hang on to their lead going into half-time. Cameroon were on the attack in the second period forcing Banyana’s back four to react early after the restart.

From there it was one way traffic which saw the defending champions throwing everything into their defending to hold onto their narrow lead.

However, it wasn’t enough as Geneveive Ngo Mbeleck got the much-deserved equaliser for the Cameroonians.

However, Banyana kept pushing for the winner as Thembi Kgatlana had two good chances to give Banyana the lead late in the game but her first shot went wide of goal and the second forced the Cameroon keeper to make a good save.

It seemed like the game would go to penalties as the clock was ticking down but Jane made sure she would secure the emphatic win for her team in the dying moments of the game.
