The Western Cape High Court has sentenced a Bangladeshi national to 25 years in prison for killing his wife.
It’s believed that in March 2021, Abdul Salam stabbed his wife Miche Samuels to death during a heated argument while she was sitting in the driver’s seat of her car.
Apparently, the incident happened in front of their minor child.
The court heard that the couple’s marriage was characterized by arguments that led to violence.
The incident happened while the couple was driving from a marriage counselling session at the Wynberg Police Station.
The accused argued in court that he felt threatened by the deceased – after seeing a knife in her bag on the day.
Salam claims not to remember the argument between him and his wife or stabbing her.
All he could recall is the child crying, tyres screeching and him getting out of the car with a knife in his hand.
The court found that he had no history of violence – but was of the view that a long-term prison sentence was appropriate.
