Ayanda Borotho reflects her role on Isibaya as Phumelele Zungu

Although she has a well-known role on Isibaya there is a lot about Ayanda we’ve come to learn over the years. The actress has acted in many local productions since the late 90s. Our first recollection of Ayanda’s acting was when she was a cast member on Generations back in 1999 and played the role of a school girl by the name of Thami.

Ayanda “Phumelele” Borotho is taking a break from playing Isibaya’s good makoti. She has her own husband and kids to take care of, and a baby on the way.

Phumelele Zungu’s language is the Zulu that only a village woman can speak. She dresses the part and is married to a man with many wives. But in real life, the actress who plays Phumelele is nothing at all likes her character.Ayanda Borotho

In fact, Ayanda Borotho is probably the complete opposite of Phumelele – the second wife of Mphiyakhe (played by Siyabonga Twala) in the popular soapie Isibaya. Ayanda is a thoroughly modern woman. She has her own beliefs, and polygamy isn’t one of them.
