Sophie de Bruyn to lay wreaths at Avalon Cemetery

Sophy de Bruyn, the last surviving leader of the 9 August 1956 march to the Union Buildings lay wreaths in honour of the women who participated in the march.

The commemoration takes place at the Avalon Cemetery in Soweto.

De Bruyn, along with Rahima Moosa, Lillian Ngoyi and Helen Joseph lead 20,000 women to the Pretoria demanding that, then Prime Minister, JG Strydom, revoke pass laws.
