Arthur Mafokate bares soul & exposes how estranged ex-girlfriend Cici Twala ruined his life
Some artists use their music to preach, others to teach, give advice, and entertain the populace, more so some have used music as a message carrier to highlight their life experiences both good or bad.
Kwaito king Arthur Mafokate has released an emotional album chronicling the psychological wounds he suffered for more than two years at the hands of his former girlfriend (Busisiwe “Cici” Thwala), who dragged him to court on allegations that he assaulted her.
In his recent interview with Sunday World, Mafokate opened his bleeding heart out after he was found not guilty of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm charge, in a court case opened by Cici in June 2017.
“This has affected me in a big way as I stopped releasing and producing music. I stopped doing gigs which was my only source of income. I also lost big contracts worth millions and was unable to contest to become treasurer-general of CCIFSA [Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa] when lobbied to stand in the past weekend’s elections,” he said.
He said his most painful experience was when the African National Congress leaders made fun of him, when he postured for a picture with actress Nomzamo Mbatha.
“Celebrities taking photos with me were labelled insensitive or told they were linked to a woman abuser.
“I was also afraid to approach corporates to do business with my artists. So, in fact, 999 Music literally stopped releasing artists hence the decline in their music repertoire in the last two years,” he said.
The Kaffir hitmaker also told the publication that he turned down two golden occasions meantto honour him with lifetime achievement awards. He said he was left with an egg on the facewhen he was struck off the Moshito and Samro boards because of the case.

“The media, radio stations in particular, took her side and continuously used their platforms to attack me. It was indeed difficult as my rivals in the industry used the case to defame me in front of potential clients,” he said sorrowfully.
Mafokate said he slipped into depression when anti-women abuse pressure groups and activists continually labelled him a woman puncher and prevented him from attending events aimed at raising awareness about women and child abuse.
“My kids were humiliated by their friends as a result of this case. One day I went to a restaurant and I found a group of women eating, but then they left when I sat down a few paces away
from them.
“I have gone through all these for something I never did,” he said with tears rolling down his cheeks.
Mafokate added that he, however, owes his parents, siblings and kids a big thank you for their support and encouragement during that hard time.
Apparently, for Cici the storm is not over yet, she said that she would take further legal action against Mafokate.
The charges against Mafokate dates back to 2017 when his ex-girlfriend Cici dragged him to court alleging he assaulted her. She pressed the charges against him, citing intent to cause
serious bodily harm.
