Here is what actually killed Andile Gumbi

The news of Andile Gumbi’s untimely passing has sent shockwaves through the country.

The 36-year-old suffered cardiac arrest while working on the set of The Daniel Musical in Israel.

According to the show’s production company, Andile fell ill on Thursday and was taken to the hospital.

“In the early morning [last Thursday] he deteriorated and suffered a cardiac arrest, but the medical personnel at Shaare Zedek Medical Centre managed to successfully resuscitate him. His present condition is critical,” read part of the statement at the time.

Cardiac arrest happens quite suddenly and without warning.

According to Dr. Pamela Mason, cardiac arrest is triggered by an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat.

The heart cannot pump blood to the brain, lungs and other organs and seconds later, a person loses consciousness and has no pulse which can cause death within minutes.

Unlike cardiac arrest, a heart attack occurs when a blocked artery prevents oxygen-rich blood from reaching a section of the heart.

The heart usually does not stop beating during a heart attack. Heart attack symptoms in women can be different than men.
