DA to challenge Ramaphosa’s decision to keep Gigaba and Dlamini

The Democratic Alliance has lodged a court application to challenge President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to retain ministers Malusi Gigaba and Bathabile Dlamini in his Cabinet.

In the papers filed on Monday, the DA argues that the president’s decision is irrational because both ministers have been found to have lied under oath in separate court cases.

In the SASSA matter, the Constitutional Court found Dlamini guilty of gross negligence for withholding information from the court, when she was minister of Social Development.

While in a 2017 judgment, the North Gauteng High Court ruled that Gigaba deliberately lied under oath in the case involving the Oppenheimer company Fireblade.

The Presidency has been unavailable for comment.
