Stan Mathabatha who is the chairman of the ANC in Limpopo was given the thumbs up by the ANC Youth League’s provincial executive council to continue as premier.
This comes after reports that other structures in the league demanded that their leaders should be chosen as premiers, instead.
Limpopo Youth League chairman Vincent Shoba’s name was raised as a possible candidate to become Limpopo premier after the May elections.
But the provincial executive committee of the league did not agree with this. They have called upon their structures to rally behind Mathabatha.
Matome Moremi, a PEC member of the league, said the league distanced itself from the statement on the upcoming selection of premier.
“The PEC and all its structures wish to rebut and place on record that we fully support the candidature of our current chairman, Stan Mathabatha, to continue leading our province. Comrade Stan inherited a bankrupt administration and manages by far to stabilize the Province and put it on a solid trajectory since he took over. The Youth League wish to express its unwavering support for the plans this cadre and his collective has for our mighty Province.”
Moremi said this was because of the respect they have for ANC processes, the provincial conference and the list conference. He emphasized that the ANC, its Leagues and its alliance partners made a determination that Mathabatha must continue as both Chairperson and Premier of Limpopo and as the league, they are happy with that.
“Lastly, we are making a clarion call to all young people of our movement to always place democratic centralism at the center of Leadership selection processes of our glorious movement and in the same wavelength act in a disciplined manner and focus on giving the ANC an overwhelming victory during the 8 May national and provincial government elections. Let’s grow South Africa together,” he concluded.
