ANCYL conference start marred by delegate number issues & audit report disputes

Disputes over an audit report are likely to continue at the African National Congress Youth League’s 26th national conference on Saturday.
Day one of the league’s long-awaited national elective conference failed to take off.
The publication understands attempts to register delegates continued well into the early hours of Saturday morning but queries over who has the right to attend and elect new leadership for the governing party’s youth wing still remain.
This is likely to have an adverse impact on the credentials report on Saturday – this is where the conference endorses the register of those in attendance and is often seen as the official start of the session.
Earlier on Saturday, there were battles over the audit report.
The publication understands some provinces raised issues over the number of delegates accounted for, even regions such as Vhembe, Tshwane, and Chris Hani complained about representations.
Some national task team members said they want to see a proper outcome of the audit report before the conference kicks off.
Secretary-general Fikile Mbalula is expected to open the party with Fasiha Hassan delivering the political report.
Hassan stepped in to replace Xola Nqola as convenor after he was removed by Mbalula.
An organizational report – expected to assess the state of the league will also be delivered on Saturday.
