The Gauteng Department of Health responded to the reports of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Alexandra township. The department communicated that five people are in quarantine after being in close contact with a confirmed patient. The person was under self-isolation while they awaited results confirming their diagnosis.
When the results of the test came back positive, the team of tracers from the Health Department and law enforcement agents tracked the person to Limpopo. The person had disregarded the instruction to self-isolate and went to Limpopo before the lockdown was instituted. The person in question is now under quarantine at a health facility in Limpopo. All the known close contacts have already been identified, tested and are in quarantine pending results, according to the department. They are at work to track and trace other possible contacts.
The department urged communities to take heed of the lockdown measures and act responsibly so that together we can contain and prevent further spread of COVID-19.
