Cape Town Tourism CEO Enver Duminy said the city’s diverse cultures, weather, and beautiful infrastructure were among the main reasons for its ranking as Africa’s number one city.
The city was named Africa’s best city brand by the inaugural Brand Finance City Index on Friday, with Johannesburg following closely behind taking the third spot.
The rankings are based on a global survey of 20 countries across continents, where members of the public measure perceptions of the world’s top 100 cities.
“Despite challenges, our future growth potential remains strong thanks to our booming tourism industry and strategic location as the major port and transportation hub,” Duminy weighed in on the accolade.
“To maintain our positive global perceptions, we must prioritize vibrant cultural scenes, sustainable urban development, and infrastructure investment.”
London was crowned named the world’s best city brand.

Africa’s number 1 female DJ and businesswoman DJ Zinhle has had another unfortunate encounter with an employee who’s allegedly stolen from her.
According to a police report seen by the publication, the Umlilo hitmaker caught an employee from her Era By DJ Zinhle store in Menlyn, Tshwane stealing from her. The employee is accused of stealing items worth R96 000. She was arrested on 12 January and appeared at the Pretoria Magistrates Court. Learn More
