2 Tsotsis flee with R60,000 Stokvel Money
They gathered to share their stokvel savings at the house of one of the members. While they were still counting the money, two gunmen entered the house and took the R60 000 in cash. The robbery took place at Tshware Village in Ga- Mamabolo, Limpopo, on Saturday, 10 December. “It is reported that the stokvel members gathered at the house of one of the members.
At about 10.30pm, before they could share their monthly contributions, two suspects appeared and ordered everyone to lie down. The suspects took all the money and before they fled, they locked all of them into one of the rooms,” said police in a statement today, 12 December.
Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe has again cautioned community members and business owners to refrain from carrying a large amount of money. “We often receive reports like this where stokvel members withdraw large amounts of money and proceed to the house of one of the members to share it, especially during this time of the year. This method obviously attracts criminals. Stokvel members are advised to make use of Electronic Funds Transfer, which minimises crimes of this nature,” says Hadebe
The cops have appealed to anyone with information about the robbers to contact Detective Sergeant Samuel Malemela on 076 749 8403 or CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
