Funeral for 11-year-old Zarah Ramsamy killed by fleeing hijackers

Zarah Ramsamy, the 11-year-old girl who tragically died after hijackers ran her over, will be laid to rest on Saturday.

The grade five pupil was killed on Wednesday evening in the parking lot of a fast food outlet in Malvern at around 8:30pm.

Four armed suspects accosted the girl’s mother as they were leaving the restaurant.

Zarah hid under the vehicle and was subsequently run over.

CCTV footage of the incident has since gone viral.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said police Malvern are investigating cases of murder and carjacking.

“This follows an incident in which an 11-year-old girl was run over by a vehicle which was being hijacked at a parking lot of a fast food outlet in Malvern. The victim was conveyed to a nearby hospital for medical attention where she was declared dead on arrival.”

No arrests have been made in connection with her death.

Ramsamy’s funeral is expected to take place at the Embassy Church in Mayville and her cremation at the Clare Estate Crematorium.

Penzance Primary School where Zarah was a grade five pupil described her as a bright and cherished member.

“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the tragic and untimely passing of one of our beloved Grade 5 learners.

“Zarah Ramsamy, a bright and cherished member of our school family, has left us far too soon.

“At this time, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Zarah’s family, friends, classmates, and all who were touched by her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit.”
