Parliament fire suspect Zandile Mafe to be evaluated outside Western Cape

Parliament arson and terrorism accused Zandile Mafe faces a trip to the psychiatric ward.

But his evaluation will be done outside of the Western Cape.

That’s because of the long waiting list for beds at Valkenberg Hospital.

At the moment, 111 people are waiting to be admitted there.

And while both the state and defense agree that Mafe should be evaluated to determine his fitness to stand trial,
there is no agreement yet on which facility he’ll be sent to.
