Zandile Gumede officially removed as eThekwini mayor

Zandile Gumede has officially been removed as eThekwini mayor. That’s the final word from the leadership of the KwaZulu-Natal ANC.
The party’s deputy secretary-general Jesse Duarte says the national leadership agrees that Gumede must vacate office immediately.
Gumede was asked to resign last month and has since withdrawn her resignation. This caused a delay in inaugurating a new mayor.

Leaders from national and provincial branches of the ANC met at Luthuli House on Monday and discussed the predicament that Gumede’s withdrawal of her resignation letter left the party in.
Duarte said Gumede was not clear about what was going to happen to her and the processes that were followed for her redeployment. Duarte said Gumede has accepted the decision.
