Paul Mashatile set to deliver keynote address at event commemorating World TB Day

As Sunday marks World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, Deputy President Paul Mashatile is set to deliver a keynote address at an event commemorating the day in Evaton.

TB Day is observed annually across the world to raise awareness of the disease and efforts to eliminate it.

The day in 2024 is commemorated under the theme, ‘Yes, You and I Can End TB’.

South Africa is among the countries that are hardest hit by TB, with statistics showing that 56,000 people in the country still die from the disease every year.

Meanwhile, the City of Tshwane’s Health MMC, Rina Marx, said there’s a need for more educational campaigns on TB.

“Over the past six months, Tshwane has recorded the second-highest number of clinically diagnosed TB cases, after Johannesburg, for the age group of five years and older, with 2,324 cases. Our clinics offer screening, diagnosis, and treatment for all ages.”
