Wits University Officially Comments On Sale of Bidvest Wits

The University of the Witwatersrand confirmed that they have nothing to do with the sale of the Bidvest Wits franchise.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila revealed a few days ago that they have purchased the top-flight status of Wits with all its players and will be relocating the club to Limpopo under a different name next season.

Following this announcement, questions were raised regarding Wits University’s involvement in the sale, as they are closely affiliated with the football club.

“Wits University had nothing to do with the sale of the Bidvest Wits Football Club. Wits sold its shares in the football club to Bidvest, our partner of close to 15 years. The proceeds will be invested in the Wits Student Endowment Fund. Direct all queries to Bidvest Wits,” the university said on their official Twitter page.

Meanwhile, a number of Wits players are set conclude transfers elsewhere before the club relocates to Limpopo, while it has also been confirmed that Head Coach Gavin Hunt will not be part of the team next season.
