Widow of murdered EMPD officer arrested for allegedly arranging his killing

Widow of murdered EMPD officer arrested for allegedly arranging his killing! The widow of a slain Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) constable, Banele Sikhosana, is set to appear in court on Monday after being arrested in connection with her husband’s brutal murder.

Allegations have surfaced that the wife of Constable Sikhosana arranged the hit on her husband, who was gunned down on Vilakazi Street in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni, during the early hours of February 7. The assailants also stole Sikhosana’s private firearm.

Details of the Murder

Sikhosana, 32, was reportedly ambushed by two gunmen outside his spaza shop near his home. Witnesses allege that he had just offloaded stock for his tuck shop and was preparing to leave when the assailants attacked.

The EMPD officer, who was based at OR Tambo International Airport, was shot multiple times while off duty. He succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

Arrest of the Widow

The widow’s arrest took place just a day after she was seen crying hysterically at Sikhosana’s memorial service, which was held by the EMPD on Friday. On Saturday, the grieving 42-year-old was apprehended by police while she was lying on a mattress, surrounded by family elders. At the time of the arrest, she was reportedly clutching pictures of her late husband as she prepared for the funeral.

Her arrest followed the earlier capture of two alleged killers, who reportedly confessed to police that the widow was the mastermind behind the murder.

Relationship History and Lobola Ceremony

Images shared on social media from November 30 show the celebrations when Sikhosana had completed paying lobola for his wife. The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for five years and shared a two-year-old child.

Despite the public displays of love and celebration, it has been revealed that Sikhosana had previously survived an attempt on his life allegedly orchestrated by his wife.

Previous Attempts on Sikhosana’s Life

Media reports indicate that the wife had allegedly tried to kill Sikhosana before the fatal shooting. It is claimed that she attempted to poison his food, but Sikhosana survived. However, just a week later, he was gunned down in what is now being described as a planned hit.

Court Appearance and Legal Proceedings

The widow, whose name cannot be revealed until her formal court appearance, is scheduled to make her first appearance at the Springs Magistrate’s Court in Ekurhuleni on Monday.

Law enforcement officials have not ruled out the possibility of further charges or additional arrests as the investigation into the murder continues.

Community and Public Reaction

The news of the arrest has sent shockwaves through the Kwa-Thema community and beyond. The allegations of betrayal, combined with the widow’s apparent public mourning, have led to widespread outrage and disbelief.

Many social media users expressed sympathy for the slain officer, while others called for justice to be served. EMPD colleagues and friends of Sikhosana have also spoken out about their devastation over the loss of a beloved officer.

Police Statement

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case. Law enforcement has urged the public to remain patient as they gather more evidence. The police also emphasized the importance of coming forward with any additional information related to the case.

Constable Sikhosana’s tragic death, coupled with the arrest of his wife, underscores the complexities and hidden dynamics that can sometimes lie beneath the surface of relationships. As the court proceedings unfold, the community and Sikhosana’s family hope for justice to be served for the fallen officer.
