Why Bonang Matheba Hasn’t Facetimed President Cyril Ramaphosa

Bonang Matheba has finally snapped back at suggestions that she should be on the phone with the president during these troubled times in South Africa. In a week that has been dominated by a large outcry against femicide and several real-life and online fights over xenophobic attacks, it was perhaps most disappointing that the country’s president didn’t take swift and immediate action in providing solutions for South Africans.

Many citizens of the country, including some of the nation’s biggest celebrities, used the hashtag #DearMrPresident to try and catch his attention but these attempts appeared to be futile.

People were already pretty upset, but the temperature reached a boiling point when, after waiting for a reply for days, Cyril Ramaphosa and his team tweeted from the World Economic Forum conference without giving the nation a peep of a reply.

People were livid, but nobody was more upset than Bonang Matheba who let her frustration boil over when she said:

This harsh tone was a stark contrast from earlier this year when Bonang and Cyril were happy enough to share Instagram live streams as she called him “Mr Preezy” in an affectionate manner. Many users wondered why Bonang couldn’t just Facetime Cyril Ramaphosa once again since they had done so not so long ago.

After hearing this comment one too many times, Bonang snapped back:

Lebonza is trying as hard as anybody to get the government to take action in what could turn out to be one of South Africa’s most important weeks in the forseeable future.
