Western Cape pupils in storm-hit Overberg & Winelands districts set to return to classes

It’s back to school for thousands of pupils in the Overberg and Cape Winelands districts of the Western Cape, who have been at home since Monday.

Teaching and learning was halted in the two districts, as a safety measure following a massive weekend storm in the province.

However, residents in these regions have had some reprieve from the rain.

Provincial education MEC, David Maynier, said there may be schools that will remain closed due to severe infrastructure damage or inaccessibility.

“This will be considered by the department on a case-by-case basis through the normal procedures for requesting school closure. Schools with the necessary permission to close will communicate directly with parents.”
