Western Cape police nab 3 suspects in separate incidents for possession of illegal guns

Western Cape police have arrested three suspects for possession of illegal guns in separate incidents in Heinz Park, Mfuleni and Khayelitsha.

In the first incident on Sunday, police responded to a shooting in Heinz Park, where a chase ensued before an 18-year-old man was arrested. Officers found the suspect in possession of a 9mm pistol and a 45 calibre pistol with ammunition.

Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, said that on the same day, police on patrol in Mfuleni arrested a man in Parliament Street.

“They saw a man who suddenly changed direction. The police members gave chase and apprehended the man, searched him and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition.”

Swartbooi said police then made another gun-related arrest in Khayelitsha.

“They entered a residence in Starlight Walk, searched the occupants and found a man in possession of a 9mm pistol without a valid licence. They detained the 18-year-old man on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.”

The suspects are due in court once they’ve been charged.
