The Rural and Farmworkers Development Organisation has expressed shock following a deadly farm attack near Porterville.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to police, five unknown armed men gained entry to the victim’s home at around 1am.
A 65-year-old man was stabbed and his wife was tied-up while the attackers ransacked the premises and fled with four different calibre firearms, ammunition and cellphones.
The woman managed to escape and sought help from their neighbours while her husband did not survive the attack and was later declared dead at a nearby hospital.
The organisation’s Billy Claasen visited the scene on Monday.
“We are in shock about what happened here. They are somewhere in the mountains, the police are looking for them and also the neighbourhood watches and the security companies involved here.
“But we hope and pray that they will find them and be punished and brought to book for this gruesome deed,” said Claasen.
Western Cape police said their serious and violent crime detectives are hard at work, pursuing all leads in a bid to catch the group of men responsible for the attack.
