Western Cape accounts for the most arrests in SA

Western Cape police have recovered over 3,000 firearms and over 100,000 ammunition from the Cape Flats alone in the last year.

Deputy Police Commissioner Tebello Mosikili said the province contributed to the largest arrests last year.

Of the 250,000 people taken into custody – 200,000 are from the Western Cape.

Mosikili said Western Cape police could clamp down on crime and curb escalating mass shootings and gang violence on the Cape Flats.

She warned police officers working with criminals that their days were numbered.

Mosikili was addressing a parade of over 300 police officers in Belhar on Friday, a show of the number of law enforcement officials dedicated to addressing escalating crime in the province.

“Lately we are hearing that firearms are all over, the question is where are they coming from because we have collected.”

She urged police to commit to the service to root out criminals.
