Claims that the ANC promised senior EFF members ministerial positions is nothing but a diversion ahead of national elections, says EFF spokesperson Mbuyseni Ndlozi.
Ndlozi told the media at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, on Friday that the claims showed that the ANC was scared of the EFF’s progress.
He said, soon after former president Jacob Zuma resigned, incoming President Cyril Ramaphosa had made the EFF an offer to be in his Cabinet, which they had rejected.
“We don’t want to serve in the ANC government. We don’t want to serve in government with the ANC.
“We want the people of South Africa to give us an opportunity in the majority to take over power, because the ANC is not interested in the political ideas we represent. The political ideas which have become popular in South Africa today.
“If you remove political parties in the ballot paper, and put our ideas [there], the EFF would come out with 90% of the vote. if it was only ideas, the EFF would win without a shadow of a doubt,” he said.
Presidency spokesperson Khusela Diko said she would not respond to the EFF’s comments.
Ndlozi said the EFF’s support was growing. He added that they were expecting thousands to attend the party’s final Tshela Thupa rally at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday.
The Eastern Cape and the northern parts of the Western Cape remained a challenge for the EFF in terms of support, Ndlozi acknowledged.
“But, in KZN which was portrayed as impenetrable… and once we reached the villages, we grew up like popcorns. Our people are like they have been waiting for us.
“Those have been the toughest, but I can say, without a shadow of doubt, that the EFF is present and EFF is definitely going to be taking a lot of votes in the most distant parts of rural areas in South Africa,” he said.
