More water tankers for Tongaat

The Tongaat community met with Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu and the KZN government over the ongoing water crisis in the area.

This follows protests this week which saw hundreds of community members burn Jojo Tanks calling for more intervention.

The community was protesting over the ongoing water crisis in the area, accusing the eThekwini Municipality of not providing enough water tankers since the April floods.

Following the protests, Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu, along with KZN government, met residents and promises have been made.

Mchunu also promised that they are looking at redirecting water from Hazelmere Dam to supply Tongaat.

This has been welcomed by the community.

They say they have even seen an increase in the number of eater tankers recently.

Officials say Tongaat will have running water by October.
