Rand Water warns of water storage crisis in Gauteng

Bulk water supplier Rand Water has sounded the alarm over a potential water storage crisis in Gauteng.

Rand Water said water storage levels across the province have significantly declined due to excessive water withdrawals by municipalities.

The water utility supplies potable water to Gauteng’s three metros and parts of the Free State and Mpumalanga.

Rand Water spokesperson, Makenosi Maroo said the over-consumption of water, particularly by Gauteng municipalities has raised serious concerns.

“Rand Water has advised municipalities to reduce their physical losses of 33% identified in the no-drop reports, also advise municipalities to repair leaks, enforce bylaws, and address illegal connections,” said Maroo.
