Emergency water shutdown to disrupt water supply to more than 50k Joburg households

Over 50,000 Johannesburg households will be left with little to no water supply on Wednesday due to an emergency water shutdown.

Johannesburg Water said it would be repairing a pipe along Empire Road in Parktown.

The shutdown was implemented at 6 am and is expected to last until 6 pm.

More than 50,000 households and businesses across the city will be affected by Wednesday’s repairs.

The main reservoirs and water towers that will bear the brunt of the repairs include Brixton, Berea, Parktown, and Hursthill, among others.

According to Johannesburg Water, the benefits of this shutdown include the improvement of service delivery, continuity of water supply, and accurate billing.

Although some residents will have some sort of water supply, those left with dry taps will have an alternative supply provided to them in the form of water tankers.
