Load shedding affects water quality, says City of Cape Town

The City of Cape Town is blaming poor water quality on rolling blackouts.

It believes the power cuts are affecting operations at the Faure Water Treatment Plant.

But, it says it’s proving difficult to get help from Eskom.

“Their response to our appeal wasn’t well received, not warm whatsoever. They’ve written back to us to say they don’t think this needs to be exempted from load-shedding grid. We’ve indicated that anything above stage two has an immediate impact, it compromises the process to clean the water. They say they need more information,” says Zahid Badroodien from City of Cape Town.
