Walter Sisulu University closed down due to protests

The Walter Sisulu University has shut down due to protests on campus. In a statement, the university said it’s continuing to engage with the SRC but protests haven’t ceased. Further lectures will continue online.

The university says it has conceded certain demands, including waiving the minimum initial payment.

However, it cannot agree to mass public graduation and payment for second-hand laptops. In videos circulating on social media, a police van is shown after it has been set alight, and students can be seen dispersing on campus grounds.
